Healing is Not Fixing, It’s Remembering
There’s nothing wrong with you, you’re human, in all lovely complexity
Lately, there has been a surge in healing. It’s everywhere. You can’t escape it. Online, there are healing circles, Reiki, accessing 5D, working with dragons, plants, animals, aliens, somatic, nervous system regulation, Telehealth, breathwork, and really anything else your imagination could come up with.
This feverish desire to “fix” and “cure” something within us, an unreachable place where we are inherently broken, is how the industry of wellness thrives. What would I know, I’m only a part of it. Vitamins, supplements, minerals, colon cleanses, parasite cleanses, essential oils, prayer, and yet there’s still dis-ease.
There’s still sadness, grief, cancer, pain, suffering, and disatisfaction. Here’s the trick though, when we experience these very human emotions, the wellness industry comes in and says “You have a block!”, “Your vibe is killing the mood!”, “Positive vibes only!”, “This parasite cleanse will take all the demons right out your butt!”, and sure, some of it may be true. But what’s more is that there are three universal laws, Buddhism, and so much of the wellness industry wants to purify away our humanity.
We see it in religion, at the doctors, on the home channel, in magazines, and out the window. We were born full of sin. Gaslit at the very places designed to help. If your home doesn’t have the newest gadget or, God forbid, shows any evidence you are raising children, you’re unclean. Lawns are being ground down to dust, removing any wild diversity, food, shelter, and real medicine. Revealing tight and neat little lines you’re forced to stand on. A barren green lawn is a place for the deceased. No wonder we continue to think we need more healing.
The Three Universal Truths
The three universal truths, according to Buddhism, are -
Suffering
Dissatisfaction
Oneness
Suffering
It is the human condition to suffer. We experience heartache, physical injury, loss, pain, shame, guilt, fear, anger, grief, self-loathing, illness, and disease. It is part of being human. And this is what the wellness industry profits from, and makes you feel like you’re “low vibe” or “sick” and you need to “heal”. Yes, sometimes, we need to express and heal from deeper wounds. But sometimes, we just feel sad. Sometimes we cry for no reason. Sometimes we just need to move through things. No magic pill or healing service will completely eliminate the very nature of being human.
Dissatisfaction
We will always experience dissatisfaction at one point or another. We may have had high hopes for someone or something, and it doesn’t turn out. Or we receive news or a present we didn’t enjoy. Or we ate a meal that wasn’t our favorite. It is human to be dissatisfied. Dissatisfied with the world, the hardships, the pain, the suffering, the anguish, and things you cannot change. Again, it’s human to feel these things. You’re not broken; the system of exploitation and capitalism is.
Oneness
As above, so below. As within, so without. As the soul, so the universe. Oneness. We are all one, whether you understand that biologically, molecularly, cosmically, spiritually, Earthly, or family. We all share this planet together, drinking the same water and breathing the same air. We are kin to a human family. We need to understand that what we do to ourselves, we do unto others. How we treat the Earth is how we treat ourselves. Light and dark, soul and soil, flesh and spirit, it’s all one. And it all exists within you, and outside of you, too.
The Shadow Self
Media, news, the wellness industry, and capitalism all profit from our Shadow. If you’ve ever been in marketing, copywriting, or entrepreneurship, you’ll know that the strategy that works best to sell more products is to hit on pain points, show them their desire, and offer the product or service. Marketing, whether that’s an algorithm or any store you walk into, is talking to your subconscious, but we aren’t even aware.
You see, your subconscious, your shadow, is the one running the show. We live a majority of our lives on autopilot thanks to our subconscious mind and autonomic nervous system. But what we don’t get taught in school or in life is that our subconscious is a product of our conditioning all the way up until the age of seven or eight. All we learn about the world and what we believe to be true lives in our subconscious patterning and cycles.
Essentially, we are children in grown-up bodies. When we lash out, it’s from unmet needs. When we hide or freeze, it’s for safety. This is where the healing industry gets a lot of its “toxic positivity". Just stay positive! It’s all good! Good vibes only! This act of waving a magic wand, supplement, healing modality, or a scam tarot reading that you received for free, now they want to charge you $300 to remove an entity plaguing your life, is called Spiritual Bypassing.
Every spiritual practitioner and wellness provider should understand the Shadow. It’s our humanity. It’s where our beliefs and values lie, even if they may be outdated and pre-programmed before you could make your own decisions. By trying to wave away the Shadow, it only makes it grow. Digging its roots deeper down. Passing through lineage and land.
We all need Shadow Work. In doing so, your humanity and connection to all will be revealed. We all have an individual Shadow, and because of this, we experience a collective Shadow. This is why we are experiencing so much grief right now under the wounded masculine (direct energy) patriarchy.
Spiritual Bypassing
Spiritual Bypassing is the act of relying on spirituality to explain away human emotions (like pain, shame, grief), unresolved trauma, emotional stress or issues, and other mental and emotional wounds. Here’s a handy graphic that explains a little more.
Healing is Not Fixing, It’s Remembering
Some healing does require wound care from a professional, I’m not disputing that. Healers come in all shapes, sizes, forms, and modalities. And at some point in the spiritual journey, we come to realize, we aren’t “fixing” or “mending” anything anymore, because we aren’t broken. To be human isn’t broken.
We’ve only just forgotten that little seven-year-old inside, who wants love, care, understanding, to be seen, and heard. We’ve forgotten that we are all One. We have forgotten that we all carry medicine. We have forgotten that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We are all looking at ourselves through different lenses. We are all God. We are all seven-year-olds. We all have the spark of the creator within us. Emotions, in their variety, are intrinsic to the human condition.
In this, remembering that this is a mirrorverse, as above, so below, we can look at others with compassion and curiosity instead of hate and harm. We can look at ourselves through heaven’s eyes, others’ eyes, and see we are the same. We all experience grief, shame, sadness, and suffering. In this remembering, we can look at ourselves with more compassion, grace, understanding, and love.
Because Love is the ultimate answer. Love exists in remembering we are all One.
We are invited daily to alchemize our shadow, so that we can return to Love.
You are Love.
