What Does Alignment Even Mean?

Alignment is basically a straight line going from one point to another. When we are talking about alignment in the spiritual sense, or even with other therapies, relationships, or anything else, it means having your values, beliefs, and goals on the same page. They should all work together towards a common goal, like a three-legged stool. They all work together for support. If one leg is off balance, broken, or missing, it’s hard to keep it from falling over.

Goals

We have a lot of goals, especially for when we “grow up.” We set goals and resolutions at the beginning of the year, goals for our careers, goals for our relationships, and even goals for our developing children. We call them milestones.
What usually happens after the New Year? Those resolutions end up faltering and later forgotten. It’s usually because of a number of reasons, these being the most common:

  • Lack of support

  • Unaligned values and beliefs

  • Injury/Changes to overall vision and goals

When setting a goal, using the S.M.A.R.T. framework works quite well. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound. I could certainly make a goal to become an astronaut, but it’s neither relevant nor attainable. Not that it couldn’t happen, but it’s highly unlikely.

A S.M.A.R.T. goal looks like this:

Specific: I want to lose 1 lb, so I will track my food log for the next 7 days.
Measurable: 7 days
Attainable: Yes, I have the app and support
Relevant: Yes, I want to lose 1 lb this week to get closer to my overall goal. Enter a competition when I’m 40.
Time-bound: One week and review

This is the exact structure I used with the help of an incredible doctor, Dr. Trauggot, which helped me lose 50lbs over the last year.

This isn’t just for weight loss or career. This can be applied to any goals, visions, and dreams you have. Write them out, don’t hold back. Get creative, go deeper, and then apply a structure to them; just one small step you can take forward is all it takes to set in motion actualizing your desires.

Values

When I first started my self help journey, I heard a lot about values. I had no idea what my values even were. I had never contemplated it. What I did to discover where these hidden driving forces beneath the surface? I kept a gratitude journal and this is how I wrote in it at the end of the day. I wrote to myself from a higher perspective. I reviewed the entire day, and thanked myself from this higher space— which helped me realize my patterns and what truly mattered. It looked like this, I’d thank myself and reflect on what this showed. I paid gratitude for at least five things each day:

Thank you, Alea, for being present with your kids and choosing play. You showed care, and connection.
Thank you for prioritizing your schedule so you could enjoy a bath. You showed yourself self-care.
Thank you for eating healthy today, and staying away from social media. You showed yourself health and self-care.
Thank you for finding the time today to be creative and play. You showed passion and trust.
Thank you for committing time to your spiritual practices. You showed stability, trust, and control.

I did this for an entire month at night while I was already in bed. At the end of the month, I had over 100 entries, and a pattern emerged. There was a theme of common things I was practicing and showing myself, my unconscious behavior, without me even being aware.

These were my values playing out right in front of me. Self-care, creativity, spirituality, trust, play/passion, control, stability, health, and commitment.

Try this exercise, whether you know your values or not. You will be quite surprised! Either they will match, or you will discover something new about yourself that you didn’t know.

You can also find countless pages, printouts, articles, and images with value lists. Review some of these and highlight what you think and believe are yours. Then do the exercise, and see if they match up. It’s a fun and easy way to get to know yourself even more intimately.

BS Belief Systems

From the time we are in the womb to the time we are about seven years old, we develop our subconscious programming, where our beliefs and core values exist. Then, as we age, they begin running in the background, hardwired. We believe that the way we perceive life and circumstances is “just reality”. When in actuality, people with the same circumstances are living entirely different lives, with a completely different mindset. How could this be? If this is true, then what is the nature of reality?

Reality as we see it, is viewed only through the lens in which we were given and developed. What we learned, heard, witnessed, and experienced as children shapes this lens. This is called conditioning. We are conditioned to believe things as children, from Santa to the Easter bunny, and even to more malevolent things, such as race and bias.

Our subconscious holds the keys to our liberation. It is the part of us that is running the show, yet we have no clue. We are completely unaware. But when we become aware, this is where magic and alchemy begin. This is where we can shift our present existence and manifest our dreams from a desired future.

B.S. beliefs sound like this:

I’m not worthy
I can’t do this
This is just reality
It’s always been this way
I’m just worthless
I can’t get anything right
I’m not good enough
Everyone hates me
I’m a terrible friend/lover/mother/parent/sibling/child
I can’t make anyone proud
I can’t focus
Who am I to achieve success
Who am I to be teaching/leading
I’m bad at math/science/friendships/connection/communication/etc.

Over time, these thoughts turned into beliefs which are supported by BS “evidence”. Maybe you had a falling out with a friend, and now you believe you cannot make friends. Maybe you failed a math test which you even studied for, and ended up disappointing your parents. Maybe you were instilled with a perfectionist mindset because it was safer to believe in a false sense of control than to be who you are.

The thing is, we have about 60,000 thoughts a day, and many of them are limiting beliefs, which in turn solidify our core BS belief systems. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy and a self-feeding cycle.

This is why evaluating our values and beliefs, bringing awareness to them, and then leaning into affirmations with powerful I AM statements, helps to rewire our subconscious to believe new thoughts, which fuel our habits. And if we change our habits, we change our destiny because our habits are our character.

Start by bringing your awareness to your thoughts, they will lead to your beliefs, which will lead you to your words, which will lead you to your actions and habits, which will lead you to your character and destiny.

Your limiting beliefs and the limiting beliefs of others always arise to the surface when you are attempting something new. Like setting a goal, creating a vision for the future, living a new way, shifting your mindset, and especially when you step outside your comfort zone.

The thing is, your subconscious, the birthplace of these BS beliefs, is actually there to keep you safe. Which it did, for a time, and in different situations. But unless they are put in check, asked to take a backseat or take a rest, or are transmuted, transformed, they will continue to run on autopilot— and you’ll wonder why this always happens.

Once you identify your limiting beliefs, you have to start believing something different from them, something that supports where you want your life to go. You can learn how to write powerful affirmations in my latest post, The Manifestation Game, Affirmation. You’ll also have to start building evidence to support the new beliefs by taking action with your habits.

I’ll discuss the topic of habit stacking in another post in during week 3 of The Manifestation Game.

For now, just become aware. Notice. Witness. Become curious about your inner dialogue. Where did these beliefs really stem from? Do they stack up to the evidence? Is this a real belief, or is this something learned?

We all have the ability to change. In fact, it is the only thing that is consistent. Let’s start being intentional with our growth. We all have a shadow, a subconscious, and it is repressed in all of us. Especially in this society built on the exploitation of people, animals, nature, labor, and care— for profit and gain. A patriarchal, misogynistic, colonized, capitalist framework— a.k.a. “civilization.” Anything outside of the profit margins does not matter. It does not exist. It is worthless and pointless unless it is productive. It has to be good for something.

These are the collective BS systems running through us all, which you will discover once you start this work.

This is why you may have been feeling a calling home, to a place mysterious and ancient within you that you have no words for. This is the begining. This is the work. This is the legacy. Breaking chains, breaking cycles, disrupting patterns, questioning why something is the way it is, and living in alignment with your authentic truth.

The light coming on within you is what this world has been waiting for. It’s a reunion with spirit. The calling home is a celebration, it is a welcoming.

Welcome home, dear one. We’ve been waiting. Waiting for you to remember.

What The World Needs

The more people wake up, the more they become aware, the more they realize this connection to something deeper— consciousness, the more this world will also come back into alignment. It takes the work of all of us to get back on track towards a place where everyone can thrive. We are not free until we are all free, and the current systems in this world keep us detached, apathetic, exhausted, disconnected, lonely, marginalized, demonized, ridiculed, tortured, and confused.

The world needs people who are awake, aware, and fully alive. Being alive includes tapping into the spiritual gifts you were born with. Manifestation, clairesenses, higher consciousness, belief, and trust in spiritual truth. Not dogma, religion, or the church— but the stories of lived experiences from people that defy logic, reason, and science.

Follow the threads of light that fuel your soul, your passions, your gifts, the things you love to do and be a part of, your talents, art, and creativity. Allow those threads of synchronicity and coincidence to reveal the destination you were born to live. You were meant to shine with the holy, sacred fire of an inner, passionate flame. That’s the immaculate heart that they don’t tell you about.

So, what are your passions? What are your desires? What are your goals, visions, and talents? What are the values that support this? What are the BS belief systems that are standing in your way of accomplishing them? What seeds can you sow? Will you remember what you can do? Will you remember you’re medicine?

What makes you come alive?
