Who is Shadow Work For?
Hint - Shadow Work is for Everyone. A crash course in the Shadows of Trump, Vance, and Zelenskyy.
I have to say, I did not set out to inundate your inbox with a fervor this week. I had everything planned out from the Becoming Motivated meditation on Sunday and my book launch and debut on Monday.
But - this has to be said. It’s relevant. And it ties in - synchronistically - well with what’s coming next for Heal House Journal.
Buckle up! We’re about to descend into the abyss…
Okay - there has never been a better time to showcase the power of Shadow Work and the Jungian archetypes than now, during this circus that is American Politics.
So, here’s a bonus newsletter. I invite you to come discover the uncanny valley of the archetypal story unfolding before our very eyes, as if it were… fated.
Come with me on a journey of descent and dissect recent events. »
LET ME BREAK IT DOWN
Carl Jung, a Swiss psychoanalyst, was deemed the father of shadow work.
(Of course, like anything colonized, the origins of Shadow work had been used and understood by eastern philosophy for centuries before his re-discovery. Tantra, Yoga, I-Ching, Mindfulness, being a few of them)
While appreciating where appropriate, I also believe his work with archetypes is incredibly accurate and illuminating for this time.
Shadow Work (whether you choose to view it from a lens of Tantra, Yoga, or I-Ching or another philosophy) is the process of bringing the unconscious conscious. Healing the repressed out of sight parts of ourselves.
The compartmentalized conditioning we all have from our childhood and young adulthood. Our values, beliefs, and the ideals we have that fuel our unconscious patterns and habits.
It’s suspected that we live 90% of our lives on autopilot. Where these conditions, addictions, biases, habits, patterns, emotions, and behaviors exist.
Essentially, if you’re not doing shadow work, you’re being hijacked by your subconscious on a daily basis.
Now, this gets even deeper. Jung comprised 12 archetypes that people, characters, stories, and lore fall into. These archetypes are intrinsic to human nature, passed down from our ancestors and into our very cells. (I’m sure this is where gods and mythology the world over were born, too!)
I have been practicing and studying shadow work as a practitioner and healer since 2018. During this time, with my pre-existing knowledge of astrology as well (not extensive but enough), I assigned the zodiac signs to the archetypes as well, and THEY DO NOT DISAPPOINT EVERY TIME.
How does this correlate to our disaster of a presidency and his constituents?
Well - let me illuminate that for you.
>> Let’s start with Trump.
He’s a Gemini Sun - Sagittarius Moon - Leo Rising
This would make his outward-facing personality - Leo
Leo - is The Ruler
The Ruler - Self - control - structure to the world
The Light: The meaning of life for The Ruler is maintaining power for wealth and prosperity.
Fears: Their biggest fear is being overthrown.
The Darkness: The Shadow Side of The Ruler is becoming consumed by their power, using it to abuse, gain control of others, and become dictatorial.
Now let’s take a closer look at JD Vance
He is a Leo Sun - Libra Moon - Leo Rising
Making him The Ruler as well.
The same applies here, but with a caveat: we all have multiple archetypes. Some are dominant, and some are less.
His Libra moon represents The Jester (need I say more?)
The Jester - Self - enjoyment - connection with others
The Light: The Jester is also known as The Fool, Trickster, or Practical Jokester. This archetype lives for lightening darker aspects of life through humor. They also reveal truth through their humor.
Fears: Their biggest fear is becoming boring and irrelevant.
The Darkness: The Shadow Side of The Jester is using humor to belittle others, using humor to avoid doing the inner work, addiction, and extremely hedonistic.
Are you starting to see?
Elon Musk - Cancer Sun - Virgo Moon - Cancer Rising - Aries Midheaven
Cancer - The Caregiver - Ego - Service - structure to the world
The Light: The Caregiver is the ultimate example of unconditional love. They tend to provide both comfort and encouragement as well as support.
Fears: Their biggest fear is not being needed.
The Darkness: The Shadow Side of The Caregiver is martyrdom. Bitterness and resentment.
It’s also important to note his Midheaven here - Aries - The Creator - Soul - innovation - provide structure to the world
The Light: The Creator, a.k.a. The Inventor or The Dreamer are creators who seek to provide enduring value and meaning to the world through self-expression of their visions and creations.
Fears: Their biggest fear is not providing value and not finding meaning.
The Darkness: The Shadow Side of The Creator is the over assertion and expectations for others’ creativity - essentially, becoming tyranical. They may even overlook morality and ethics in their pursuit and in order to actualize their big vision.
The Constituents (MAGA)
Most of the followers of this regime are The Rebels / Outlaws (this does not mean all rebel archetypes are MAGA)
Aquarius - The Rebel - Soul - Liberation - Leave a Mark on the World
The Light: Also known as The Outlaw, their purpose in life is seeking change, revolution, bringing justice on oppressors - for personal gain OR on a wider scale.
Fears: Their biggest fear is being ineffective and what they perceive to be injustice.
The Darkness: Since they do not adhere to social norms (think conspiracy theories, Q Anon), The Shadow Side of The Rebel may become harmful, disruptive, chaotic, or worse—even dangerous. They may also overlook and tolerate potential harm to others in pursuit of what they perceive to be their “righteous” cause. They are quick to judge others if they do not initially agree with their rebellious pursuits.
To begin healing the shadow of The Rebel, they must get out of their own heads through mindfulness, find balance, and deconstruct their “Us vs. Them” mentality.
Is this making sense so far?
The Shadow Side is the unhealed and sometimes, even toxic side - we all have a shadow. Some are healing, and some choose not to change their perspective to the light and to the greater good - realizing our purposes in life.
Now let’s have a look at Volodymyr Zelenskyy - from a healing perspective / facing the light.
He is an Aquarius Sun - Leo Moon - Gemini Rising
Aquarius being The Rebel, he has the same purpose, fears, and shadows. But what makes him different is that his cause is for ALL AND the greater good. The liberation of his people. Alliances with democratic world leaders and their countries.
Leo as The Ruler is the same BUT again, he is working for the greater good of all - freedom for all.
Going deeper - let’s look at his ascendant - Gemini - Ego - Safety - yearning for paradise »
The Light: The meaning of life, the purpose for The Innocent, as an optimistic and dreamer, is seeking a Utopia. A place of happiness, freedom, joy for all.
He may not be perfect - as we are all human - but his cause, his purpose - is shifted to Community. To the greater good. His Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Needs has shifted from the top being Self-actualization to that of contribution to society. He already knows who he is, a leader.
To heal the shadow of The Innocent, they must be willing to take the risks necessary to reach their utopia. Which is what he did with his interview at the White House.
Who is Shadow Work For?
True healing begins when we all decide to look deep within ourselves by leaning into our deepest purpose and evaluating our beliefs systems, values, and questioning our conditioning in a pursuit to foster a deeper connection to humanity, community and the greater good for all. Healing over harming. Healing is how you personally play a bigger part to Oneness - our inevitable connection to everyone and everything, everywhere, all at once.
Are your limiting beliefs, conditioning, repressed shadow and fears holding you back?
Is your shadow helpful or is it harmful to yourself and others?
Are your values in alignment to what you want to bring to this world?
Are you living your highest purpose in alignment to your values?
Ask yourself - what wants to bloom from out of the darkness?
